Introduction
My name is Alex and I have been working as a counsellor, in a variety of settings, for the past four years, supporting people with a range of different presenting issues, such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, addiction and terminal illness.
As I’ve gained more experience in helping people overcome the challenges that life throws their way, I’ve become convinced of something: life is filled with obstacles for a reason; challenges are here to help you grow and evolve.
Nevertheless, in order to grow and evolve, we first need to learn to face our emotional pain, instead of avoiding it. ‘Let’s not ever again talk about how dad died, ok?’ or ‘Don’t ever remind me that it happened…’ Sounds familiar? But when we find the courage to face and understand our pain, not only do we find better ways of dealing with it, but we also come to know ourselves better. This is how Rumi put it:
“Don’t turn away. Keep your gaze on the bandaged place. That’s where the light enters you.”
Therefore, the therapy that I offer is designed to provide you with a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore your difficult thoughts and emotions that might have been previously too uncomfortable to acknowledge.
I work mainly in a person-centred way; integrating elements of transpersonal psychology, mindfulness and meditation into the sessions, where I see appropriate.
I am a registered member of the BACP, and abide by their ethical framework at all times.
